Get the most out of the ‘Gateway to the Arctic Ocean’
Capture life-long memories in the ‘Paris of the North’ on this guided e-bike tour of Tromsø! In 3 hours, you’ll cycle around some of the city’s most spectacular sightseeing spots, taking in all the history and culture of Tromsø, the ‘Gateway to the Arctic Ocean’. It’s a packed itinerary including, but not limited to, the harbor, Skansen, Vervet, the Arctic University of Tromsø, Prestvannet, and Telegrafbukta.
Your brilliant e-bike tour begins with a ride along the harbor, one of Norway’s largest fishing and cruise ports, with an eclectic mix of old and new, wooden and brick buildings. As you cycle, you’ll already start to feel the spirit of the Arctic getting under your skin! Soon you’ll reach Skansen, the colorful ‘Old Town’ of Tromsø, boasting wonderful wooden architecture and the quaint Old Customs House. These are among the oldest buildings in Tromsø, built on what was once a fortification on an artificial island in the Tromsø Sound. Skansen is one the city’s most historically valuable regions - there still remains the rampart of Skansen’s medieval castle!
Your e-bike tour continues on to Vervet, a former shipyard that’s now one of Tromsø’s trendiest neighborhoods, boasting high-end eateries, the Arctic Cathedral, and Tromsdalstinden (city mountain), all beside the spectacular Arctic Ocean. Smart and urban, Vervet was designed to showcase contemporary architecture and quality urban planning, with the history of Tromsø honored in the decoration and design of the buildings.
Onwards to UiT, the Arctic University of Norway. The world’s northernmost university, the University of Norway has a keen focus on subjects suitable to its Arctic location, including auroral light research, space science, Arctic research, fishery science, and biotechnology, alongside more common degrees. Its close proximity to the Norwegian Polar Institute, Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, and Polar Environmental Centre ensures that UiT, and Tromsø as a whole, is recognized internationally as an Arctic research center.
Pedaling on to Prestvannet, discover a small lake boasting unrivaled opportunities to witness the Northern Lights during the winter. The lake, on the highest point of Tromsø, is a tranquil natural space right in the heart of the city, a gorgeous site to park up your bicycle and breathe in the refreshing Arctic air.
Your e-bike tour takes you on to Telegrafbukta, Tromsø’s southern beach. This beautiful bay, boasting incredible island and fjord views, is a popular spot for summer sports enthusiasts and those wanting to witness the Northern Lights in winter. A beach with a difference, Telegrafbukta is a truly magical bay, offering intriguing surroundings, unrivaled views, and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to park your e-bike and reflect on your terrific Tromsø tour!
