Where culture and history converge
Be amazed by Lyon’s waterways on the Lyon Confluence E-Bike Tour! Pedal along the Lyon peninsula and soak up the sensational sightseeing spots of the romantic Rhône and Saône confluence, including the harbor, Rambaud Wharf, the Confluence Museum, and Raymond Barre Bridge. This is a family-friendly guided day tour designed to fill your mind with wonder, and your lungs with the fresh river breeze!
Let Lyon inspire you as you ride the peninsula to Confluence Harbor, where the rivers of Lyon converge in beautiful harmony. Your guide will be on-hand to fill you in on the harbor’s history before you ride on to Rambaud Wharf, a beautiful pedestrianized zone where you can safely cycle along the waterfront enjoying vibrant views of the harbor. A striking icon in this vista is the Confluence Museum, or Musée des Confluences, a quirky, deconstructivist style building dedicated to science and anthropology.
Bike up to Raymond Barre Bridge, the gateway to Lyon, spanning the Rhône in terrific style having been built at an angle to the river’s flow, and installed with lights to create a sensational nighttime spectacle. Let your guide lead you on to Gerland Park, a gorgeous green oasis in the urban cityscape. Weave your e-bike through this tranquil space, a favorite of locals for their weekend wanders beneath the canopies of burgeoning branches.
Cycle on to discover the Grand Hotel Diue, a truly exceptional piece of architecture that will take your breath away as you bike up to its exquisite facade. Boasting a varied history, the story of this UNESCO World Heritage Site began in the 12th Century. Since then, the opulent building on the banks of the Rhône, once regarded as the jewel in Lyon’s affluent crown, has been a hospital, and is now being redeveloped as a multi-purpose shopping and dining venue.
The final stop on your brilliant bicycle tour is Bellecour Square, one of the largest open squares in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the center of the Place Bellecour is a staggering equestrian statue of King Louis XIV, ruling over the square. The statue you see today was installed in 1825, the original of 1713 having been reduced to its materials during the French Revolution to build a cannon! Sitting right in the center of Lyon, the Place Bellecour is the focus of the city’s four main streets and boasts brilliant views of the Vieux Lyon and Lyon Cathedral just over the Saône.
